Mount Balagbag is one of the best places to go hiking in Manila! The trail is very wide and easy, so it’s perfect for people who are beginner hikers. You can get to the summit in just an hour and don’t need a tour guide.
Introduction to Mount Balagbag
Mount Balagbag may be small in stature, but it’s big on beauty! With more than 777 meters of elevation, it encompasses the provinces of Bulacan and Rizal and is the perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts to hike. For years, it was a mountain that was being illegally logged. The locals are now on a mission to restore its rich history by planting and reforesting the land.
Experience
Mount Balagbag is the most amazing mountain I have ever climbed. I start with storytelling before I climb. I left Manila very early in the morning, around 2 am. Since there was no traffic, I arrived at Tungko early, and I took a jeep to Licao-Licao about quarter to 5. It was still dark, and there were no people in the area. I waited in a store first. I was very nervous because I read that there was a robbery in the area, so I hid at the side of the store while waiting for people to come or the morning to come.

How to Get To Mount Balagbag
From Cubao, get on a bus going to Tungko and get off at Tungko. Walk to the BDO building, where you’ll find a jeepney terminal to Licao-licao. Walk past it and head down to the end of the line. From Licao-licao, you have two options for how to get to the barangay hall. You can ride the trike, which will cost you 30 pesos each time, or walk, taking about 20-25 minutes.
What to Bring on the Hike
Bring as much water as possible. Also, bring enough food. Wear adequate protective clothing in hot weather.
Conclusion
The province of Bulacan, if not already on your bucket list, should be. They are home to so many things to do and explore. Although Mount Balagbag is a well-known destination, there are many more places to see. I encourage you not just to put it on your bucket list but your must-do list. For your next getaway, visit Bulacan. You won’t regret it.
