The Wawa Dam: A Piece of Local History

  For a long time, the Wawa Dam has been a part of the local history. Located in the province of Rodriguez Rizal and was created to provide power for Manila, founded in 1909. The dam is also known as Montalban Dam, and it was abandoned in 1968. The dam is now a popular tourist destination and is currently protected as part of the Pamitinan Protected Landscape. What is the Wawa Dam? Wawa Dam is a big dam that was constructed to control the Marikina River. It’s situated in a gorge with a height of 360 meters (1,180 feet). This big gravity dam has an arched shape. This abandoned water reservoir once provided the water needs for Manila! It was built in 1909 during the American colonial era and was the only water source until Angat Dam was built in 1968.
